Quails with white beans
This is a typical
dish from the south of Navarra. Mothers have a special ability
to create a kind of edible ecstasy in all of us with a good
plate of Quails and white beans.
This particular type of white bean are collected before
drying so that they are usually quite soft. On top of the
creamy beans you serve one or two quail, depending on their
size, just as if it were the icing on the cake.
It's a dish for those of you who have clean and delicate
hands. If you have to spend a lot of time in a enclosed
space after eating this dish, it might be better to choose
a different dish if you don't want to put your friendships
in danger.

Pacharan
This a traditional
liquor from Navarra which is made from the berries of a
local bush. It's taste is a mixture of sweet and sour, which
is, in fact, the case with most loci's. It has a reddish
color and is about 25° proof. It is usually taken with
ice after a heavy meal to settle the stomach. If you are
not used to drinking the stuff, go easy on it. If not, the
following morning they could be wiping you up with a mop
and bucket.

Sanfermin Fauna
The ones from outer space
Nobody knows where
they appear from, but everyone has the same doubts about
their belonging to the human race. They have super-powers:
some can fly, others wave little red plastic rags in front
of the bulls, and there are others who, without warning
and without asking for any money in exchange, turn themselves
into statues of salt in the middle of the street.
Some people from here are of the opinion that they dont
come from another planet, but that they are undergoing a
progressive degenerative genetic mutation. Probably, from
eating hot dogs from some street-corner stand, which is
imbued with a strong tang of urine all round it.
The fact is, when someone feels for some reason a bit low
during the Fiesta, one of these beings can detect it and
will miraculously make an appearance with some super-powered
act that will bring back that euphoric feeling once again.
They are a bit like the arch-angels of the Fiesta.
